'The Gap' between knowing and doing

It is not a new realization to hear that most people are living in survival mode. Most of us have even perhaps admitted that to ourselves in the past at one point.

"I am just doing what I can to survive" or "I am just doing my best in life".

Let us look at those comments again this time re-phrased in a proactive manner, rather than reactive.

"I am doing what I can to be successful" or "I give my best effort plus more in life".

All of a sudden the possibilities and outcomes in life are endless and not limited to the acute size of our knowledge or experience. We open our minds up to a universe that allows us to think greater than we are currently being. When you achieve what you perceive to be your best and start focusing on going further and achieving more, your consciousness opens up to new possibilities. You are now going into unfamiliar territory, you are learning things you didn't previously know, you are experiencing new levels of comfort and you are in all senses of the word GROWING.

If you are not growing you are very quickly dying.

How do we stop living in survival mode and stop pushing the very buttons that create disease? We must change and grow our mindset. To change is to think greater than we feel. This sounds easy at first, but I soon realised that 'The Gap' between knowing and doing takes focused and repetitive practice.

Dr Joe Dispenza, an authority on quantum physics and psychology, says that if we are to change and grow as people we need to produce new emotions. We need to consciously rewire our brain to create what we want. Do not continue to accept routine in life which lulls the brain to sleep. To monitor change and advancement we must not use feelings as a guide to our progress. Feelings are memories of the past. Feelings and emotions are end products of experience.

When I jump out of bed in the morning I think, "What is the greatest I can feel today". "What is between me and that idea"? I cannot start my day being the same person who went to sleep otherwise I can only expect today to be the same as yesterday. Start the day focusing on something positive and greater than your current state. I focus on my goals, and suddenly I have a concise and specific vision of where I am going. I have an elevated sense of self and I can picture and feel like a new person. I am hard wiring my brain with images of success and growth. I am feeling the events ahead of their manifestation in the real world. I expect that my goals will unfold if I take the required action and live proactively. What I don't expect is how they will come to me in my day. I surrender the outcome and leave the finer details to the greater mind.

Surprise wakes the mind. Using familiar feelings as a barometer is only going to assure my daily experiences end up with the same result as yesterday. I continue to practice daily the ability to create new emotions that I like in events that are necessary to achieve my goal.

For example: I know that I must spend 1 hour each morning working on myself, setting up my day, visualizing and focusing on what I need to do, if I want to achieve my goals. If I don't do this each morning I simply will not get to where I want to go in the time frame I have set for myself. This is not something that I feel like doing every morning, especially when I have done a gym session the previous day and can barely roll out of bed, or I am having a conflict with someone in my life and I feel distracted, sad or angry.

THIS IS THE BEST TIME TO CREATE CHANGE, WHEN YOUR BODY DOES NOT WANT TO.

It is easier to reside with the feelings we currently have because those are the feelings we have repetitively associated with that state of being in the past. It feels comfortable to dwell in self pity and revision the events of the past instead of thinking about ways to make change and believing they will work. This is a good example of 'The Gap' between us knowing how to change and actually putting that into action and really creating it.

What would you do in that situation if you woke up feeling tired and angry? Would you go back to sleep for another hour then wake up and start your day with those feelings of tiredness and anger? Or would you push yourself to continue with your goal, spend the first couple of minutes working through those feelings of discomfort until you started to teach your body to feel good and look forward to that 1hr personal growth session every morning.

Here is something to think about today while you are at work:
If you currently have a job then you clearly understand the concept behind this article 'The Gap'. You go to work a certain time every day, looking a certain way, and you act a certain way. You realize that if you do this you will be rewarded in the form of a pay check at week’s end. If you don't go to work you don't get paid.
So, if we you want to change where you are going in life, you no longer want to accept feeling a certain way or continue to live without what it is you want in your life, you must set goals and review these goals daily and take action in life accordingly. We know that it is that easy! Simply make your mind up what it is you want in life and where you want to go and start doing what is necessary......

Why do most people place commitment to their job above that of their life goals?

  2. Hello Leigh,

Your last few words really nail it.

"Simply make your mind up what it is you want in life and where you want to go and start doing what is necessary......"

"Start doing" is an often overlooked key to getting what we want out of life.

Have you read the book "The Answer"? It a great companion read to The Secret. It focuses on action as the key to success.

Like I always say..."You cannot steer a stationery ship". As we navigate the waters of life we choose which way we proceed, that is, unless we have stopped. If we stop, then all we can do and look, and point, and watch as others obtain the success they seek.
